Ben Van Deelen Charitable Fund

Mission

The mission of Ben Van Deelen Charitable Fund is to provide funding for the prevention, treatment, and study of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth and young adults, with a focus on funding in the communities of Duluth, Hermantown, Proctor, and Superior, and the immediate surrounding areas. Projects that are co-sponsored or co-funded (e.g., by corporations, other regional foundations, by individuals and by organizations, local, national or international) will receive priority.

Examples

  • Services preventing or treating mental illness and substance use disorders in youth and young adults;
  • Supports for families with youth and young adults experiencing mental illness and substance use disorders;
  • Training of providers in the prevention or treatment of mental illness and substance use disorders;
  • Initiate or further studies of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth and young adults.

 

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for funding, an organization must:

  • Be classified as one of the following:

    • Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (i.e., traditional nonprofit)
    • Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code (e.g., governmental entities and schools)
    • Section 7871 Tribal government
    • Church
    • Organization with a fiscal agent that is classified as one of the above
  • Be located in or provide service to Duluth, Hermantown, and Proctor, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin, and the immediate surrounding areas.


Grant range
Grants generally range up to $1,000.
